San Franciscan says hello to chitown.

I just moved to Chicago from San Francisco! Hello y’all! So far, with the summer (I love the cool weather that people are bitching about) it’s good stuff. I really needed the change, and so far, I love it here. Any former San Franciscans in the house?
I finally went to Millennium Park (being new, not sure if this has been exhaustively discussed) and even though I heard all this negative criticism on WBEZ about how it wasn’t a park at all (i.e. not relaxing, wasn’t going to age well, blah blah). I think it’s great. The towering video fountain was community art at its finest allowing tons of screaming children to cool off, barefoot parents to relax as said children ran around and offered a meeting place for all of Chicago to join in. I was pleasntly surprised by Geary’s big-ass band stand. I thought it would be much more annoying! And the torus-like jelly bean mirror was far-out. I especially liked the babbling brook in the Lurie Gardens and watching people roll up their pants and cool their legs and adults walking through the 1/8″ pool by Crown fountain…. I guess for $450 mil and change, it better be good.

Welcome to Chicago! I agree that the cooler summer weather is great – I’m not one of the crazies complaining about it. Glad you enjoyed the park. I’ve only been there in the winter (again the cold weather appeals to me).
