Donations or Business Deals

In the Chicago Sun-Times there is a report about a Nike swish imprinted in a soccer field of a local Chicago Public Park. Mayor Daley, reportedly is very excited about having corporate logos and names posted all over. He gave as an example the now imfamous Millenium Park. And, hinted that if more corporations wanted to donate money to a specific project they would make sure their logo was seen. I checked my dictionary. Donations are suppose to be gifts. They are suppose to be given voluntarily and without any expectations. The way I see it, Nike gave $500,000 to Douglas Park to buy the rights to promote themselves. I have some suggestions for Daley. Why not have Corporations sponsor schools? That way they can remain open, thus servicing more children, offering more jobs to teachers and other staff, and we will name the Schools after the donating entity. I will take it a step further, our Governor’s plan to recunstruct the highways with a cash-less tollway system, should be sponsored by Corporations. We will in turn name the portions of road or the structure they sponsor after their Corporation name. Also, we will make sure their names and logos are posted all over to make sure they are well promoted. Who knows they may even want buy donate toward the street you live or work in. Seriously, I see this happenning.
