nightlife in the next administration

Oh, is it another week already?

I’m still a little groggy from the parties and the Empty Bottle show this weekend. Apparently I missed a great show at the Double Door last night; I was partied out. I hit bottom. I’ll do my penance later, and promise not to let it happen again.

Anyway. I’m noticing plenty of post-election vigils planned for tomorrow night, but I’m not going to any of them. I’ll let you check out all those other unnamed websites to plan your post-election celebrations/mourning. No, I’ll be too exhausted from all that voting. I mean I have to walk there, fight through all the people I’m told will try to prevent me from entering the polling place, insist on a paper ballot, and finally solve this brain-bending puzzle that involves punching holes and chads and arrows and picking presidents and firing judges and things. Woo! I’m getting tired just thinking about it. So if I start bright and early at, let’s say noon, I should hope to get back by six, and turn in right away. I’ll need my sleep; I’ll have to be on a bus first thing next morning so I can spend November helping count Florida’s votes.

So after that, if the curfew hasn’t been mandated and we’re not in some sort of Orwellian military state, here are some shows for the rest of the week:

  • Wednesday: The Donnas & the Von Bondies @ the Metro. 6:30pm, all ages, $15.
  • Friday: The Ponys & the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion @ the Metro. 10pm, 18+, $17.50.
If these bands aren’t your thing or you’re short on cash, then catch The Moses Gun at Phyllis’ Musical Inn for quite a few bucks less (probably $5). These guys really know how to put on a great show. 10pm
  • Saturday: The Paper Bullets, the Its, & Until They Arrive @ Silvie’s Lounge. Once again, Traci Trouble’s gonna blow your mind and maybe a few amps. 8:30pm, 21+, $7.

Phew, I made it through this whole article without making a “rock the vote” reference. Aw, dammit…

The Its are cool. I didn’t even know the Jon Spencer band was still together.
