Pixie Dust Descends Upon Chi-Town
Unless you’re in a media black hole, you’re very aware that the Pixies’ Chicago leg of their tour is in full swing until Wednesday night. Lauren went Saturday night and I have tickets for Wednesday. (They’ll either have their show down or be super-tired of Chicago; I’ll let you know.)
So while Chicago is getting all Pixies-crazy, I’ve kept the calendar clean until they leave. I think all local bands are busy with something else anyway. I can’t imagine what it would be…
In any case, here are my picks after Wednesday night.
- Thursday: Ted Leo & the Pharmacists @ the Metro. Many music blogs I read or enthusiasts I hear from like to proclaim Ted Leo the King of Indie Rock. (Wait? King of Indies? Isn’t that, like, an oxymoron?) I’ve heard some songs, and I don’t know. I’m going to have to go and see what all the fuss is about. w/ the Tossers & the Natural History. 9pm, 18+, $13. (Buy your tickets now!)
- Saturday: If you’re in the Lakeview or Wrigleyville area, check out the Effigies & the Manhandlers @ Bottom Lounge. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Manhandlers’ll knock your pants off, maybe even literally. The Effigies? What can I say that probably hasn’t already been said or shouldn’t be. w/ ! Attack. 18+, 10pm, $12.
If you’re in the Wicker Park area, you might prefer some Horizontal Action at Subterranean. They’re celebrating their #14 release with Vee Dee, the Feelers, the Krunchies, and the Worst. Should be a great show!
If you’re in Rockford, I can’t help you. At all.
So I’m all psyched about the Pixies show. Can I say Pixies one more time? Pixies. Because you haven’t heard enough about them yet.
I saw Ted Leo here in Austin a couple of weeks ago. King of Indie rock? That might be a bit strong, but he does put on a good show. Well worth the price of admission. He had a different opening band for him here, so I can’t offer an opinion there. But, check Ted out – I think you’ll enjoy him if you like that style of music.
just remember i haven’t proclaimed him king of anything. it’s just what i hear. or imagine. sometimes i’m not sure which is which…
anyway the tickets are in hand, so uhh, there you go. or there i go. yeah. to the show. that’s it. yup.
Oh, I forgot to share your enthusiasm for The Pixies. I caught them at the Austin City Limits Festival in September and was very pleased! I thought about their full set show in October, but $40 is a little steep these days.
Now, I need to figure out why I’m posting more comments here than at the site I allegedly write for. Hmmmm
Enjoy the show.
ted leo kills live.
the pharmacists are super tight and his vox are super fine.
