What I’m Doing
True to the title, here’s what I’m doing this weekend. Let’s go to the shows.
- Thursday: The Reptoids @ Gunther Murphy’s. The Reptoids have been played on WXRT, Q101, and now WLUW. It seems to me they’re the fastest rising band in Chicago right now, as far as the more unknown bands go. So catch them this week, because you never know how many more chances you’ll get to hear their grungy heavy distortion garage sound at a cozy venue like Gunther Murphy’s. w/ Quiet Kid. 10pm, $5.
- Friday: Stag Party @ the Empty Bottle. My earlier encounters with this band were quite impressive; the front man’s antics and facial expressions along with the catchy music leave me thinking of Jonny Lyden and PIL. w/ My Way Love & Poison Arrows. 10pm, $10 at the door.
- Saturday: The Manhandlers @ the Bottom Lounge. This wild foursome knows how to throw a good show. I thought they were the better performance last month when they opened for the Effigies. Maybe that’s just me. Also look for them to be featured on next week’s Chic-A-Go-Go (You may even see yours truly, so I suggest you don’t look too hard). w/ River City Rebels, Street Brats, 7 Shot Screamers. 6pm, All Ages, $10.
yeah i can tell you now, the Stag Party sucks. They are a direct ripoff of the Talking Heads. absolutely awful. the “front man” is a douchbag. He’s apparently full of himself and the music has been done. Go see them for yourself, rarely an occasion comes along where you will voluntarily cram screwdrivers in your ears and twist.
I heard the Reptoids’ drummer works at The Drum Pad in Palatine.
c: actually i kinda dug stag party when i last saw them. the singer did dump a friend of mine recently, though, so you may be right about that. i’ll bring the screwdrivers just in case.
shawn: yup, she said it’s true, and is now real freaked. okay not really.
