March 1 = free credit reports to the Midwest
Those of us here in the midwest can now get a free credit report via http://www.annualcreditreport.com
If you don’t want to get it online, you can get it in 15 days via their phone number 877 322 8228
You inquire for a free report once from each agency per year. You can get all 3 at once or stagger it across the year however you like.
More than one inquiry per year from each agency (transunion, experian, and equifax are the participating credit reporting companies) will cost you but will not affect your credit score.
I just did it and it took about 2 minutes to do. Pretty sweet.
I don’t like to give away my personal info, especially my ssn. How reliable is this site, as well as other online credit report(er)? Anybody?
The site is joint deal between the 3 companies due to FACT getting passed January 1st of this year.
I’m neither a lawyer nor a financial guru but I would imagine these jokers already have your SSN on file.
from the “about us” section:
AnnualCreditReport.com is a centralized service for consumers to request annual credit reports. It was created by the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
AnnualCreditReport.com processes requests for free credit file disclosures (commonly called credit reports). Under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act) consumers can request and obtain a free credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies. AnnualCreditReport.com provides consumers with the secure means to do so.
