No TV? How will we survive?

ComEd

We came home last night at 7 pm to find the power out in the whole building. We called ComEd (1-800-EDISON-1) to navigate their automated is-the-power-out-in-your-hood? system. Here’s a tip – find a ComEd bill before you call – the system will say it can look up your address with your phone number, but then that won’t work and you’ll need your account number.

The computer voice told us that the power should be on by 10 pm. We looked out back and saw two cherry pickers and a pickup truck of ComEd service guys staring up a cruddy-looking transformer. It was getting dark, and with no TV or internets to entertain us, we went to bed.

We were woken up at 9:59 by lights and computers suddenly coming on. Oh, hard-working ComEd engineers racing against the clock to finish a tough job on schedule. That’s, you know, their way.

Oops. It won’t work if you have your account under your cell phone number, but then try and tell the automated system your home phone. Stupid multiple phones. Stupid me.
