Dear Chicago, We Hate You. Love, Radio

Holy shit why must the radio suck so much ass in Chicago. Why. Q101 has at least turned over their programming to the kids, which means at least some kids will listen. My point is that we should get a fund going and purchase the worst one and then take that bad boy UP.

You are absolutely right. That’s why, whenever I’m online, I listen to KEXP 90.3 FM from Seattle. Check out the Live Performance archives. So good it makes me cry.

You probably wouldn’t like my “all Carpenters, all the time” channel.

    :D

What about 93.1XRT? I think their musical selection is pretty damn good. And no I dont work there. But I do agree the rest is garbage.

    Wait… I’m confused, doesn’t *all* radio suck? I don’t think it’s Chicago specific.

And (Mancow aside–he’s still crap) I’ve heard some good music from the new Q101 “Shuffle”… I don’t think the “kids” were programming old DK, Cure and Ween.

omg brilliant. buy em out. KEXP is the only listenable radio. And sometimes even they push it.

If you’re looking for great radio (along the lines of KEXP) check out Minnesota Public Radio’s ‘Current’ service (www.mpr.org) – streams online and, best of all, no commercials!

Even XRT has gone downhill in the past few years. Chicago radio has nothing going for it, except for possibly WLUW 88.7 out of Loyala, but even their playlist is terribly weak at times. But it’s really hard to complain about them..it’s college radio…at least the ‘play anything’ spirit is alive and well.

KEXP is good, my favs are WOXY and KCRW. Locally WLUW does a pretty good job. Thank you very much for my iPod, Satelite Radio which is ok, and all those darn CDs. All of the commercial channels SUCK and that means XRT too! Are they really still playing Tracy Chapman with The Beatles mixed in every other song?

I used to be a faithful listener of Q101. But when they decided to go shuffle on me, I must say that i was a little annoyed. What finally broke my heart is when i heard *shiver* the safety dance. I was so traumatized that I have yet to tune in to that channel for more than 3 seconds since.

On another note: Say what you will of Q101, The Loop, B96, WGCI and the like, but keep WNUA 95.5 out of this. Those jazzy cats are alright.

I agree, I don’t know what has happened to Chicago radio. It seriously sucks balls. I suspect that a lot of it has to do with every other station sycophantly offering fellatio every five minutes to their content partner AOL. XRT will always have the number 1 spot on my car radio preset, but when did they start playing horribly bad classic rock like ZZ Top and George Thorogood. Sound Opinions on Tuesday nights are not to be missed, but their daytime fare is crapola. Especially pathetic is their attempt to have a morning show with that geezer Lin Brehmer and whoever the clueless female counterpart is. They have negative chemistry, and I would rather listen my transmission overheat than their painfully non-existent rapport. Long Live My Car CD Player and Kanye West.
