To put things in perspective

If you’re in need of a harsh dose of reality, a lesson in history, or both, head down to Block 37 downtown, at State & Washington. There you will find, in the middle of our modern metropolis, an old boxcar that quite possibly had been used to transport victims to the Nazi concentration camps. The Sun-Times has a better write-up on the display.

I got a cold chill just reading the article:

“She remembers clearly the sound of the boxcar door slamming. “You heard the lock and you knew your freedom had been taken away,” she said.

The trip took days. “The grinding of the wheels is still in my ears,” said Fritzshall.”
