Hey, that’s funny! I bet the parents of the boy who suffocated to death in the back seat of his car would love that joke. I think I’ll print it out, frame it, and run it down to the funeral home in Steger before they take off to bury his body tomorrow.

Too bad it wasn’t one of your nautical star tattoo sporting indie rock myspace addicts under the plane, then maybe I would have actually laughed.

Yeah it is funny! I’m sorry if you are connected to the death, but if you read the blog article where this picture came from you’ll see it’s even funnier in that it’s 1) Satire and 2) Critical of how the problem of short runways at Midway are being dealt with.

Obviously you find humor in death yourself, with the whole “I’d laugh if it were an indie. . .blah, blah, blah” tripe you ended your post with.

I’m dissapointed in Otto myself. Only one kid? In the old days, he would have skidded that plane right through a grade school and ended the night with a couple of martini’s and casual sex with a couple of blow-up dolls from the local sex shop.

Even if you can consider death “funny”, that joke was about the least clever thing anyone could have come up with.

I must have missed the “funny comments about death” over on http://chicago.metblogs.com/archives/2005/07/this_hot_bitch.phtml . That incident must be -three- times as funny since -three- guys were killed, right? Guess I wasn’t looking hard enough for those comments. You know, there’s still time to post your witty and satiric comments over there as well, while the incident is still fresh in everyones mind. I mean, someone has to do better than Steve Dahl’s “Win a trip to work with Jeanette Sliwinski” line on his website, right?

    Dearest CMH,

Regarding your last post: WRONG! First of all, I can think of a million examples of jokes about the Midway accident that would be a million times less clever than what’s portrayed in that picture. For example (and this is only an example) what if the blogger posted something like: “Hey, guess what’s funny about the Midway crash? A kid died! Haaaaaaaa!” Not once in that blog entry did the blogger say anything about death being funny. He or she just made light of the situation that unfortunately resulted in a death, while still poking sticks at the politics surrounding the debacle that Midway is becoming. And your example of the nutso who crashed her car, well, that’s just a bad example to compare the Midway thing to. That’s not even apples and oragnes buddy, it’s apples and Zippo lighters. Have a good night!

I think the picture is funny myself. Yes, it skids (ha-ha) a bit over the line into the area of bad taste, but it isn’t making fun of the kid’s death in and of itself. It’s just not evil in that way.

“It’s just not evil in that way.” Thanks, Teri. That was my feeling. It lampooned the endless search for “causes” in what was a debacle of an accident and subsequent finger pointing, not that someone died.
