Theiving Elsewhere in Chicago

It’s Christmas. I’m VERY pregnant and have decided that I would place orders on line for Christmas presents. I ordered from Garrett’s Popcorn and made arrangements to have it shipped to a business client. Imagine my surprise when I found out that 3 delivery attempts had been made by FedEx (not my favorite carrier right now) and that package could not be delivered. I was NOT contacted by Garretts nor was I contacted by FedEx. Instead, it was my curiosity in checking the tracking that uncovered this error.

When I called the number provided on the Garrett Popcorn site, I was told that they could not contact FedEx for me. I ended up calling FedEx and they pretty much told me that Garrett Popcorn would have to contact them to reroute it. So I called Garrett’s again and got the same run around. After explaining my situation – maybe it was the annoyed pregnant voice I used – I finally got the Garrett’s Corporate Office number which I called.

I was told that if after 3 delivery attempts, FedEx could not deliver the package then it would be destroyed. I would not get a refund and would not be able to get a replacement shipment. I ended up getting the package re-routed through Garrett’s corporate office, but will have to pay a rerouting fee. Who knows if I will ever get the package. I just know the following:

1. I hate FedEx; the customer service people there should be taught manners.
2. I will NEVER order from Garrett’s Popcorn.
3. I will NEVER buy Garrett’s Popcorn.
4. Garrett’s Popcorn are theives (only I got taken willingly).

Ho, ho, ho – Humbug!!!!

    But the popcorn from Garret’s is SO good!

    On another note: Congratulations! I did not know you were pregnant!

    Yeah – preggers (again). The kids will only be 15 months apart. And, Garrett’s isn’t THAT good that I would buy their stuff again.

    My man works at UPS…I’m sure the package would have gotten there if you ship UPS, but they tend to beat up what they ship pretty bad, since it was popcorn though I wouln’t worry about it breaking.

    Both UPS and FedEx have let us down in the past. My wife had a horrible time receiving a package from her Dad, in Puerto Rico, using FedEx. And another time she tried waving the UPS driver down…he saw her coming, waving her hands…and took off down the street. Pissed, she walked up to the truck and was welcomed with a “What do YOU want?”

    From that point on, we never have anything delivered at home. Always have it sent to your job, if possible.

    Garrett Popcorn has a ho hum attitude when you call their corporate office. You’d think they could hire extra help during the busy holidays. 4 days to fill, 14 hours to sit before pickup, 87 hours to reach destination city, sit for 48 hours, delivery during 10 hour span. And, I paid $19.00 for 2 day delivery!!
    I’ve been a customer for 52 years – no more! Try to change your attitude when handling customers.

    I think that all the readers should drop a note to Garret’s and let them know they read about this right here on Metroblogging Chicago and that they are terribly disappointed in them.

    A Chicago institution letting down someone who writes about our beautiful city every live long day? Shame shame shame.

    FedEx messed up the urgent delivery of my passport, trying to deliver several times to the wrong address. And then tried to charge me to deliver to the correct address. If it had been a day later I would have been unable to catch my connecting flight home.

    Irene,

    First, congratulations on your pregnancy. As a mother of 3 boys I remember pregnancy all to well.

    I am originally from Chicago, but now live in Phoenix and came upon this blog as I was checking up on popcorn in the Windy City. My family owns a popcorn store in Phoenix and guarantee you would have had a different experience at Pass the Popcorn! (www.passpopcorn.com) First, we hate FedEx too and will only use them if a customer insists. We have found FedEx’s customer service for both merchant and individual customers to be unacceptable. We utilize UPS in part because we are able to notify our customers of when their order has been shipped and when there is a problem (i.e. attempted deliveries). We also ship our orders within 24 hours using UPS Ground or USPS Priority. Our popcorn arrives fresh, and when it doesn’t we will always try our best to fix the problem. If you’re still craving popcorn during your pregnancy, give us a try.
