Let Down
Jim DeRogatis writes this morning that the city has rejected Radiohead’s bid to play Millenium Park this summer in favor of a scheduled rehearsal of the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra. The shows were to have been on June 19 and 20 and Radiohead would have paid rental fees of $100,000.
As their previous show in 2001 (at Hutchinson Field) and Lollapalooza proved last summer, there is hardly a better setting than the lakefront for rock and roll shows, and to pass up the chance to have Radiohead play Millenium Park is a big mistake. The 2001 show had such pristine sound it was hard to believe it was outdoors in a field that had never been a concert venue before. I’ve heard the orchestra play in Millenium Park and the sound is fantastic; can’t we work out a deal?
That 2001 show was easily one of the best I’ve ever seen. Too bad they couldn’t ask the GPSO to practice another weekend. Imagine seeing Radiohead on that stage? Mindblowing is the word that comes to mind. But let’s put on a practice instead…. :::rolling eyes:::
