Da Mayor

… of Ar Arutbah

Why does everything good happen on Tuesday nights? Because I have class, that’s why. Well, here’s another great event that I can’t go to, sponsored by the fine folks at the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations & their hip GOAt program (translation=there is beer).

So what you’ve got this time is Major James A. Gavrilis, the guy who took a few thousand dollars and PoliSci 101 and turned one small Iraqi town into a fuctioning democracy long before the idea was a blip on the radar of the rest of the country. Tuesday night he’ll debate Northwestern’s Nader Hashemi on topics of nation building and democratization in the Middle East.

What? Okay. So maybe you and I have a different idea of “a good time.”

Setting a Course for Democracy or Disaster?

“Setting a course for democracy or disaster?”

Hasn’t this question pretty much been answered already? Seems as though the latter has won out.
