LATE Ride registration open

The LATE Ride is my favorite of Chicago’s organized* mass bicycle rides and registration is now open for this year’s ride — July 16*, 2006. Registration is $5 off until June 30.

* Critical Mass is officially not officially organized, so that’s in a different category. Officially.
** Technically Sunday the 16th, but it’s at 1 am, so you should put it on your calendar for Saturday the 15th.

Did you know, dear readers, that in NYC the police, citing post-9.11 powers, regularly videotape and otherwise surveil demonstrations such as Critical Mass?

Keep in mind it’s just a bunch of people riding bicycles.

Such is the state of affairs in George Bush’s America that the simple act of riding a bicycle requires police surveillance.

(I’d provide a link to the NYT article but they charge for it. Bastards.)
