Art Chicago cancelled!

Wow. My “Fuck Art Let’s Fuck” flier just took on a whole new meaning. I just received this email from my pals over at Adams Fine Art:

> Dear Friends,
>
> Unfortunately for everyone involved, the Art Chicago at Butler Field
> art fair scheduled for April 27th through May 1st has been cancelled
> at that location. Though there is some talk of a last minute venue
> change, no official notice has been given. The information we have
> received seems to indicate that Thomas Blackman and Associates, the
> show promoters, are unable to mount the event at Butler Field in
> downtown Chicago. Our staff has personally visited the event site on
> two occasions, including just a couple of hours ago, to confirm that
> preparations for the art fair have ceased.
>
> In essence, the art fair we contracted to participate in is not taking
> place, therefore, we have no choice but to contact our friends and
> clients as early as possible so that everyone who was planning to
> attend the fair and associated events
> has time to alter their schedules accordingly.
>
> We are saddened that we will miss this annual opportunity to debut our
> latest acquisitions and visit with our friends from
> around the country and the world. Our gallery will remain open this
> week and we are preparing to host a number of
> out-of-town visitors who have already arrived in Chicago for the
> week’s art events.
>
> If you have the opportunity to come by the gallery this week and
> weekend, you can view our current Chicago Bauhaus exhibition and see
> the extraordinary group of early Andy Warhol works we were planning to
> exhibit at the fair.
>
> Thanks to all of you for your ongoing support of our gallery and the
> City of Chicago. Feel free to write or call if you have
> any questions or concerns.
>
> Sincerely Yours,
> Sandra, David, Melissa and Jonathan

And it’s true, their ID show is pretty fucking cool. Go check it out.

That is really bizarre, and I actually had planned to “catch up” on my art viewing this weekend. Guess I’ll have to golf and get drunk instead.
