New apartment pissing you off?

Someone may have your back. We just moved last week and the new place is great, but the hot water pressure, especially in the shower, is so low it feels like you’re being peed on. Imagine that first thing in the morning. So we were tickled to find the Illinois Tenants Union website: tenant.org. They describe themselves as “an advocacy organization for residential renters”. Our email to them was returned the next day, outlining the city ordinance that states hot water pressure should flow at at least 2.5 gallons per minute. Using our own non-scientific technique (2-gallon bucket), we determined that we were only getting one pathetic gallon per minute.

We were also told that if our landlord did not fix the problem within 14 days, we should call ITU right back. I’m not sure what they would have done, but it was nice to have someone on our side, since landlords can be very, very frustrating to deal with sometimes. Turns out we didn’t need them after all. One call to the landlord and the issue was fixed. Hurray! No more early morning sprinkles.

Well there’s nothing quite like being peed on every morning! Renting almost always has some type of problem, glad I gave that up and moved in with Oprah.

Our next challenge is to have them replace the windows. You know the old ones….with the chains up the side, the old wooden ones? No way those are staying up past this summer. We’d end up freezing our tushes off.

Ha, I’d love to know if moving in with Oprah actually solved your problems.

The shower was like getting peed on, eh?

That’s what you get for moving into R Kelly’s old apartment.
