Save the Music!

Last month, I wrote about Chicago Public Radio’s decision to cancel all music programming.

Now, there is a boycott website and an on-line petition, Save the Music.

If you value music at all and think that public radio should reflect the community, then please take a moment to visit both sites and sign the petition!

I guess i’m in a minority here, but it is about time they got rid of (most) of the music. they could keep the friday night music lineup, but that is all that I care for, and I rarely listen to that. If I want music, I don’t get it from the radio.

though on the other hand, they could also get rid of a lot of the lousy talk programs, especially “Hello Beautiful” which just is boring and sucky. And they could bring back “Odessey”.

aw, screw it, what do I know about public radio programming? nothing. i just know what I like, and I liked wisconsin public radio much better than i like WBEZ.

It’s not about some of the music… they are canceling *all* of the music. And replacing it with ??? (even Torey Malatia, who canceled the music admits he doesn’t know what will replace it yet!)

You might not *like* all of the music programs they play, and *you* might not get _your_ music from the radio. But are you seriously suggesting that a *public* radio station in Chicago should eliminate all music programming?!

Hear hear! they could put it in the “As It Happens” slot. I mean, what is UP with that show anyway?

I actually will not miss most of the music either but I’m still not sure it should be thrown out either. I am going to miss Sundays with Dick Buckley…

I’ve supported public radio in every city I’ve lived in .. and supported BEZ despite the puerile ‘Schadenfraude’ and that Canadian news show, because they play Dick Buckley and Georges Collinet.

Not any more. As long as I live in Chicago, if this format change goes through, my money will go elsewhere.

I wonder if they’ll cancel ‘The Annoying Music Show’? It may be annoying, but it’s music…
