Dear Leader to Visit Chicago Today

Bush’s dune buggy tour will make a visit to Chicago today to tell attendees of the National Restaurant Association’s annual conference how swell things are going in Iraq.

This morning, the local news touted this as a speech which would be focused exclusively on Iraq and the War on Terraâ„¢ (please note these are in fact two separate topics) but the Trib and Sun-Times are now saying that Bush is going to discuss “comprehensive immigration reform” as well.

Expect Bush to make hay over the formation of Iraq’s government- it’s a “new day,” “a new chapter,” we’ve turned yet another corner, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and so forth.

Don’t expect him to point out that the government is essentially comprised of armed militias, each of whom now has control over a government ministry.

Nor will he mention that posts at key ministries such as security, the Interior and Defense ministries have yet to be filled.

I’m guessing he probably won’t mention Haditha, and the alleged wanton slaughter of innocent Iraqi civilians by U.S. Marines, nor the 50 Iraqis killed in the civil war there just yesterday.
