Wicked? Not really.

Saw Wicked this past Saturday. I personally am not that interested in musicals, but Liza wanted to check it out, and it was our anniversary, so I paid the man at Stubhub and off we went. I’ve never been so disappointed with something that had so much hype.

I prepared myself for the music, singing and dancing. What I wasn’t prepared for was the lame, 80s-style music, the useless singing, and the pointless, endless dancing. 30 minutes into the show I felt a nudge and heard “wannna leave?”, and that’s all I needed. I couldn’t have been more frustrated by how bad it all was. It was very…simple. Too simple. The only aspect I found tolerable was Glinda. She was snarky, snobby, bouncy and bubbly….and a bit psychotic. Awesome.

My favorite comment from Liza after we left:
“Why is everyone surprised she’s green? It is Oz afterall. I mean, the animals talk. Who cares if she’s green???!?!”

I have to say I enjoyed the music, but the book hardly resembles the novel at all. If you haven’t read the actual novel, I would recommend it.

I was just speaking to a coworker who read the novel and saw the show. From what I hear, the novel is much darker, which is what I was looking for from the show.
