Lolla Over

Now that you’ve read about the big festival in all of the papers, webzines and blogs, what are you final thoughts? What were your favorite acts? I have not heard a lot of complaints that are sometimes associated with events this large.

The big ones seemed to be the high price of bottled water ($3 each), selection of artists and the expansive layout of the festival. I’d say free water was plentiful with my two allowed bottles each day and the many water fountains. I was quite happy with the artists, especially since I really only had time to check out 20 or so out of the 130 total. Something has to give between multiple stages and sound overlap. Sure there was a lot of walking, but it didn’t stop me from getting around to see my favorites which most of the time sounded great.

If you were not an attendee, are you sick of hearing about Lollapalooza yet?

Bill, you are such a liar. You totally didn’t drink any water the whole time I saw you…though you did have that massive beer mug taped to your hand…

You must have seen me after day one because that mug was originally part of my two-beer helmet holder. Damn helmet got trashed during Raconteurs show but was worth it!

Broken Social Scene were great, as were The Raconteurs, I knew little of either band’s music before this. Lips, Wolfmother, SY were all great. BTS was boring and The Shins too. Sleater-Kinney was my major disappointment. I love that band and they played like they already had broken up. Bummed I missed Jared Leto (kidding!).

I think Jim Dero needs to relax a little more. His Lolla preview and reviews have been nothing less than annoying.

I just posted my post-Lolla report on my blog, it’s way too long and picture-laden to put up here.

I just posted my more-detailed Lolla review on my site as well – on the whole I was quiet pleased. I saw a nice, balanced mix of national and local acts, and new-to-me stuff and old favorites. All in all it was a good experience.

Saw about 7-8 bands overall Friday and Saturday. My Morning Jacket rocked, Sonic Youth and Flaming Lips were yawners for most of their sets. Can someone please tell these bands that this is an outdoor festival? You can’t play slow songs for 1/2 the set. It doesn’t cut it outdoors. The sound just gets lost and people start to wander.

One thing I loved was that I NEVER waited for the porta-potties.

Very little to complain about at the fest for me. My faves, Eels, Editors, Mates of State, Wolfmother, Dresden Dolls, Flaming Lips, Hot Chip and Broken Social Scene.
