Snacking at the Goddess in Wicker Park

I’ve wanted to move to the west side for a while now but my girlfriend doesn’t like the “attitude” of the neighborhood. I was hanging out by myself in Wicker Park this morning, though, and decided to grab a bite at The Goddess and Grocer during a break from boutique hopping. Ok, the north side wins out in terms of proximity to the lake and ease of jumping on the red line, but the west side has to win something for this cute, yummy shop, with a long bakery case full of fresh salads and a full menu of sandwiches. It looks like a Whole Foods minus the corporate aftertaste and rounded out with plenty of liquor, chocolate, and cheese options. You can even grab a fully-loaded picnic basket…though it’s a long walk to the picnic-perfect lake.

My fiancee and I purchased a few picnics and they were quite delicious. Watch out for their carrot cake cupcakes – they are divine!

Wicker Park is the “west side”? Whaa?

What side would you call it? I don’t think of it as North or South and the east side doesn’t exist (no matter what the folks at Lakeside East would have you believe).

Kate don’t let the fine folks of Hegewisch (www.hegewisch.net if you do not know where Hegewisch is) hear that they don’t exist anymore.

Stopped by the Goddess last night on my way home and picked up some olives (awesome), some feta (even better) and their caprese salad (kick ass). Highly recommended!

Oh, and they also have the big 40 oz. lookin’ bottles of Sol cerveza, which is also a nice treat.
