Chicago 2016

Chicago2016.jpg I got the image of the Chicago Logo from here. According to Daley, this logo symbolizes how our city rose from the ashes of the Chicago Fire and the energy that we, as a city, are known for. We’ve asked once, now we ask again, what do you think about the Olympic bid?

Personally, if we don’t improve the infrastructre of the South Side, we do not have a chance at securing this bid. The buses need to run on time, the empty lots should be taken care of and the streets should be as well cared for as they are on the north side.

I’m also not too keen on the idea of tearing up Washington Park for a stadium, but that’s just me.

    That’s not just you…

I’m a no-go for this one. I haven’t checked all the stats, but historically the host cities are no better – and sometimes worse – off after the Olympics pack up and leave town.

The logo rocks though. Love the art deco feel.

The logo is nice, but I have to agree with those who don’t really want the Olympics in Chicago. And yes, historically, the host cities are no better off (usually worse off) with the Olympics.

i hated the notion of the logo when the trib wrote about it. they wrote first and posted the image later; so of course they made it sound like it was a torch witha stylized city on fire. such crappy writers.

i had to back off for a while and look again, at which point i decided it was really well-done.

as for the idea of chciago as an olypnic city, i feel like it’s another desparate bid by daley for national attention, much like his ridiculous p.diddy day last week.

i think the attention will end up helping the city transition from burned out industrial hulk to informational crossroads, which is obviously what he’s trying to do. but he just comes off like such a clown in public when he does these PR stunts one right after the other. it’s a little embarrassing at times.

This is a very good logo for the many things it packs into such a simple image. Our history with the chicago fire, the green city, lakefront–all merging that with a traditional olympic symbol. I analyze a bunch of other points in detail, such as the implementation of pencil lines in the logo at: http://www.spudart.org/blogs/randomthoughts_comments/3776_0_3_0_C/.
(it’s too long to post all of it here).

I understand the history but I’m not really sure how buildings on fire really sit with me after 9/11 and knowing that Chicago towers have been targets of plots.

And a golf T…yea, it does look like one.

Nice choice of font and nice styling of the skyline though.
