South Loop Fire

I spotted this one on the way home on LSD… the smoke was quite thick and black:

The building is 630 S. Wabash, the Dexter Building which is a Chicago landmark designed by Adler & Sullivan.

Last I heard on the radio, it was a five-alarm fire and the adjacent buildings had been evacuated.

Update: According to the Chicago Tribune story this was a “5-11” alarm fire, the highest “alarm” there is… and it looks like the building was destroyed.

I walked past it at about 4:15 PM and it looked like they had it under control. Imagine my surprise. It didn’t look that bad at the time.
