And the Evening With Officer Gleason…

Didn’t happen.  Our winner had to move today, and she was far too tired to get back to the city.  So, I did what my favorite commenter, JoJo, recommended and brought a family member.  Since he is not able to drink (legally), I didn’t have any beer either.

Unfortunately, none of my pictures turned out; however Flickr has some great shots (which i did not post because they’re not CC).  Without further ado, here’s my opinion of the show:

All in all, it was amazing.  The set was too short and I don’t  think Lisa and Jenny were mic’d up right. Also from where I was standing, I couldn’t see all that much,  just the back of people’s heads a few rows ahead of me.  This just happens when you go to the Riv.  However, it was just a treat to hear all the songs live and have a massive sing-a-long.  My young cousin said, “Here I thought they were pretentious.  Actually they were really good.  Maybe its just their fans who are pretentious.”

Here’s the set list, and a few notes I made:

Lesile Ann Levine

Someone from the crowd threw something onto the stage.  I couldn’t see it, I couldn’t hear what was going on, but people who had a better view were laughing, so, I think it was funny.

We Both Go Down Together

The Engine Driver

The Crane Wife  1 and 2

The Crane Wife 3

–There was some awesome banter here and a wonderfully impromptu rendition of some cover song…and I have no idea what I wrote here.

Yankee Bayonets

Oh, Valencia

July, July!

16 Military Wives

–Here, Colin conducted the audience into two La Di Da camps, each one shaking its fist and singing at the other.  Priceless.

The Island

Sons & Daughters

–Colin dedicated this song to the losers in this year’s midterm election with the the following quote:  “Better luck next time, now you know how it feels.  From us, on the other side of the divide, this is for you.”

Red Right Ankle

A Cautionary Tale

–Here, the Decemberists, spccifically Lisa, John and Chris, acted out the final battle of the Hobbit for us.  For the  “Battle,” all I could see were the people ahead of me.  However, they did weave their way past me during the song.  Even that picture is borked.

While the contest is over, the forum for this concert is just opening.  What did you think of the show?

edit: I linked a music video from YouTube.

    Hey, Sister in Law

It’s not crappy, rude or malicious. Everyone has a tendency to bite off more than they can chew so it was no big deal. No need to jump down the anyone’s throat because they weren’t able to do something. I got more than enough notice to get the ticket to someone else, and from that note it’s pretty clear to me that Shannon feels bad about it enough as it is. No need to make her feel worse.

But thanks for having my back on a public forum.
