Breaking news: shooting downtown

Three Four people were shot in a hostage situation downtown at the Citigroup Center in the West Loop, but the situation is now being described as “secure”.

Update: The shooter is dead. “Police Supt. Phil Cline said the gunman was armed with a snub-nose revolver, knife and hammer. He was holding a hostage when police fired at him, but he also may have shot himself, Cline said.”

The building also houses a Metra station and trains were stopped for over an hour. The trains are running now, but there will delays.

    Metra is running again… the station is secured. But it’s not clear if they are opening the doors to commuters.

    They are saying four people were taken away in ambulances, and that the shooter was in custody–although they didn’t say if he was one of the people taken away.

    Apparently, he was armed with a .38, a knife and a hammer.
