Budgets, Budgets Lets Look at Some Budgets

For those who are following the the Cook County Budget Shortfall, I’ve started compiling (and reading) previous budgets from the Cook County Forest Preserve District as well as the standard Cook County Budget. Most of these links are PDFs, so be careful, okay?

This is the 2007 Forest Preserve Budget, recommended by President Steele (you know, the president who served for four months then got a $132,000 pension).

Here is the 2006 Forest Preserve Budget . A major difference between the two? Just over $5,000,000 increase from 2006 to 2007 and 4 additional employees. I’m not entirely sure that the “Hiring Freeze” in the County affects the Forest Preserve, but given this memo, I would think it does. Keep in mind that there was a hiring freeze before President John Stroger had his stroke.

For the County side, the budgets have all been conveniently located here. In a few weeks, President Todd Stroger will put out his budget recommendations. Feel free to compare and contrast his budget’s with his father’s. Feel free to help me make heads or tails of it too.
