Good as Gould

Good thing I packed an extra flask of booze for the OT, that was a close one! Robbie Gould kicked the Bears into the NFC Championship game next week against the Saints at Soldier Field, and wow, was that tense. Whenever the Bears defense wants to show up for the full game, I’m ready, because this is getting ridiculous. Yes, they pulled it out at the end with some huge stops that prevented Seattle from getting close enough to kick, but come on, this game was almost like an old AFC shootout. The cornerbacks remain shaky and the run defense is a thin cape through which opposing running backs are regularly busting through. The special teams looked shoddy too, besides Gould. Coverage was poor and Devin Hester looked scared when the ball was actually kicked to him (not that often lately). His one flash of brilliance was brought back by a penalty, but I predict he will break one next week. As for the offense? We have one. That is all that needs to be said.

New Orleans will be tough. But they are a dome team. The Bears have their problems but all they need to do is win at home and it’s off to Miami.

I was glad that the Bears won. It was not a strong performance overall, but they did do just enough for the win. The defense will have to play better against the Saints for any chance at making it to the Super Bowl. Our city will go nuts with one more win!

Enjoy the win, it will be the last. I can not wait for the Saints to get up here next weekend and put the final touch on their superbowl run by knocking out the Bears. It was nice to see the Bears have a decent season, but they will not be a match for the New Orleans offense.

I love the city of New Orleans but the Saints’ fairy tale season is about to come to an end!

Unfortunately, this terribly cliched headline has been all over the place (“Good as Gould”). I would have given more thought to it had I not been typing in a hangover fog after spending the day and night at Cody’s Bar. Something like “Gould-Y-Locks and the Bears Get It Just Right!”

    OK, that’s awful.

    13-3 is a “decent” season?
