Smoky
Last night I spent a whole half an hour at the L & L, with only two smokers in the place, and still came out smelling like I’d smoked a pack myself. Surely, I thought to myself, that smoking ban is going into effect soonish — wasn’t it passed years ago? Nope, we’ve still got a year-and-a-half to go on what must be one of the most passive-agressive “bans” ever. Oh well, the kinds of places I frequent will probably exude their years of stored-up smoke well into 2010.
I DJ many Fridays in Lincoln Square, and the smoking is a funny thing. Some nights there are no smokers, sometimes it’s just a couple, most of the time it’s many. It only takes a couple to make everyone smell like smoke. I for one will be glad when it’s all over. My friends that smoke don’t chain smoke and say the ban won’t be a problem for them, maybe even a blessing.
That’s IF the ban ever goes into effect at bars. I’ve been long predicting the council will develop a loophole before then to keep establishments that want to remain so as smoke-filled as they are now.
