Vote Against Richard?

Everywhere you look suggests that Mayor Daley will win the current election rather easily. Here’s an article in The Reader that says you should vote against him anyway.

The article sums up some ongoing issues with Daley and his administration, mostly focusing on the scandals, city services and the public complacency that has followed. It seems like the author has some good points, but is it really worth voting for another candidate just to take a stand?

It’s not a wasted vote, for two reasons:

    1. The lower the margin of victory, the less the candidate can claim a “mandate from the people”. God, I hate that.

    2. If you just give up and vote for the status quo, you don’t get the smug satisfaction of reading about the latest scandal and thinking (or announcing) that you didn’t vote for them. (i.e. How I feel every time I read about the Toddler.)

    :)
