Happy Casimir Pulaski Day!
Happy Casimir Pulaski Day, Chicago!
Not to be confused with Roman Polanski Day.
When I first moved to Chicago, I knew who Casmir Pulaski was, but in spite of my Polish heritage, I had no idea he had a day! In addition to being a hero of the American Revolution (eventually being appointed Brigadier General of the entire American cavalry), his day is also a Sufjan Steven’s Song (although, the song isn’t about Pulaski).
Take heed though, even though Pulaski was important enough to warranty shutting down city offices, it’s not a parking meter holiday… they’ll be ticketing and towing as usual.
