When Life Gives You Lemnos, Make Lemnoaid

Chi-tonw

A few weeks ago Gapers Block linked to a story about a man who was suing Jade Dragon Tattoo and tattooist Sam Hacker because he had been tattooed with “CHI-TONW”. Well, now Hacker and tattooist friends are tattooing people all over town with the same misspelling.

Of course, as one of Zorn’s commenters points out, the real scandal here is that this guy thought “Chi-town” would be a cool tattoo when nobody here calls it that. Sure, Will Smith in Miami, but no real Chicagoan.

What kind of jerk off gets a tattoo, a text tattoo at that, without looking at the stencil in a mirror and “yeah, that’s looks good, go ahead and make it permanent!”

Evidentially he did look in the mirror. And I haven’t seen a picture of the original mistake, but if it was in the same sort of gothic lettering as the deliberate one in the picture above, I do have to say that all the straight lines of the n and w tend to run together a bit. There’s plenty of blame to throw around in this case, but I can understand how it happened.
