Music Without Borders

The first show isn’t for a month and a half, but I’m already putting the Music Without Borders shows on my calendar and blocking those nights off. My Swahili-speaking brother-in-law heartily recommends the kora player Toumani Diabaté and his 15-piece band (July 12) — and he’ll be joined for this show by a horn section of Chicago’s top jazz musicians. Carlinhos Brown (June 27) and Fela Kuti‘s son Seun Kuti (June 28) are also going to be “off the hook”, as the kids say. All the shows take place at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park at 6:30 pm and all are free.

June 24 – Enzo Avitabile & Bottari
June 27 – Carlinhos Brown/Andy Palacio & The Garifuna Collective
June 28 – Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 with special guest DJ Rich Medina
July 12 – Toumani Diabaté & The Symmetric Orchestra with Vieux Farka Toure
July 23 – SambaSunda
July 29 – Gerardo Nunez Flamenco Ensemble, featuring Simon Shaheen and Nishat Khan

The Pritzker family sure is gonna be mad at you!

But really, thanks for the heads-up. Those shows are usually very good, and free!

    Thanks — fixed that.
