2007 Chicago Book Festival

So, with the start of the new month, the Chicago Book Festival is in full swing. (Happy October.) There’s a lot of cool things happening all over town (I’ll describe the events through Wednesday after the jump). And, most of them are free.Try and get to a couple of these in between innings.Today, Oct. 1:Rudolph Delson will be reading tonight at 7:30 from the novel MAYNARD AND JENNICA, at Borders (2817 N. Clark.)Tuesday, Oct. 2:The Shedd Aquarium (1200 S. Lake Shore Drive) will entertain the preschool set from 11-3 pm with Tales from the Sea, readings from picture books about marine life. Tickets $23 for grown-ups, $16 for kids 3-11 and seniors.Karen Abbott will explore the naughty side of Chicago as she discusses her book: SIN IN THE SECOND CITY: MADAMS, MINISTERS, PLAYBOYS, AND THE BATTLE FOR AMERICA’S SOUL. 7 pm at the Budlong Woods Library (5630 N. Lincoln).Wednesday, Oct. 3:At noon, Ellen McClure will talk about her book SUNSPOTS AND THE SUN KING: SOVEREIGNTY IN SEVENTEENTH-CENTURY FRANCE at The Alliance Francaise (54 W. Chicago). $7 for non-Alliance Francaise members. Call to reserve a spot: 312.337.1070.David Trinidad and Jeffery Conway team together to bring you poetry from their collections, THE LATE SHOW and THE ALBUM THAT CHANGED MY LIFE. 5:30 pm at Columbia’s Music Center Concert Hall (1014 S. Michigan).Talk about The Cubs with other bookish folk when Glenn Stout and Richard Johnson discuss their new book THE CUBS: THE COMPLETE STORY OF CHICAGO CUBS BASEBALL. It’s at 6pm at the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium (400 S. State).See Arthur Miller’s screenplay come alive in the 1996 version of THE CRUCIBLE (this is the film with Daniel Day-Lewis). It’s screening at 6:30 pm at the Sulzer Library (4455 N. Lincoln).Check out Reading Under the Influence’s monthly series. Time Out Chicago books editor Jonathan Messinger (and newly-published author) will be reading, along with a couple of others. It’s happening at Sheffield’s Bar (3258 N. Sheffield) at 7pm.

    Aww man. What bad timing for the Cubs reading. The Cubbies are playing in the playoffs that night! They’ll either start at 4:30pm or 7:30pm on TBS.
