Fare Thee Well, Pigeon Man of Lincoln Square

Yesterday at Western and Lincoln an impromptu memorial took place for Joseph Zeman, better known as the Pigeon Man of Lincoln Square. Zeman, 77, was killed on December 18 when he was struck by a moving van. He was identified by the laminated copy of a 2004 Tribune article found in his pocket.

The Pigeon Man was a fixture of my neighborhood, so much so that I did not really take note of him until he was gone. His absence makes Lincoln Square a slightly less colorful place.
