Mmm fast food for vegans

Okay so I love meat. LOVE IT. I mean for heavens sake, my nickname is Bacon. For reals. I love my steak rare and my burgers with bacon on them. I’ll eat any kind of meat at least once. I LOVE MEAT!! I was a vegetarian for a bit in my early years but when my roommates ordered buffalo wings for some reason I had to have one and I’ve been a carnivore since.

Since I work in the neighborhood it is hard for me to not eat out everyday for lunch. And I have to say I complain about it all the time. I’m tired of the same 5 places that I eat at so when I see a sign for a new food establishment I have to say I get giddy. So when I saw the sign for Veggie Bites I was intrigued and excited.

It is an all vegan fast food place. They serve up yummies like chili cheese dogs and gyros and the like. Everything is organic and delicious! And very reasonably priced. I had the pleasure of eating the chili cheese dog and it was served on a whole wheat bun and it was really good. When my boyfriend heard that I had eaten there he said “gross” but I will soon convert him. Maybe, he does love meat as much as I do……

So now that it is no longer a cold mess outside (okay so the past few days don’t count….) I have been taking Little Mac (yes he has a myspace page….) for long walks around the neighborhood and I have been using the sidekicks camera to take pictures….I love tulips.

Hey folks, sorry I have been without computer access for a little bit. It makes life harder. But anyway, I am back! And I have an event to write about……
As you may or may not know, I work at John Fluevog Shoes on Milwaukee Ave in Wicker Park. This Friday we are having a fashion show/showcase featuring stores on Milwaukee Ave. Our dear friend Nellie, one of the other authors, will be attending and helping out. We did this event last year and it was a lot of fun. There will be two fashion shows. One will feature vintage fashions and the other contemporary fashions. My good friend Karl Meier along with Jon Balzekas will be DJing and there will be free refreshments from Peroni beer and food from ZK Foods.

Feel free to come, bring friends and be ready for a good time! Believe me I know how to throw a party. And I promise, more blogs to follow!

Why is the weather so crappy in Chicago?? Come on! I keep asking what we did to deserve this!? I hate hearing the, “well its better then snow…” response and I have to say, “NO! It is not!! It is no better!! I still have a coat on!”
In case you didn’t notice, its pouring outside. And I have been at work….well, not really working. Its not because I don’t want to work, but there is NO ONE outside. Seriously, some guy just darted by and that has been about it. Oh what a dreary day. Srsly, there is nothing worse then being bored at work. It makes the time go by so slowly!!
I did look at some silly websites today….like www.hotchickswithdouchebags.com but that is about it.

Let me take a moment to talk about zipcar….

I love it. LOVE IT!! I donated my car to the Children’s Hospital in Lincoln Park via Zipcar for a benefit that they were putting on. I got some cash for my car, a free membership for life, AND some free zipcar dollars. Its really simple, you go to their website, you sign up, you get a Zipcard in the mail, you it with Zipcar and then when you want to drive, you reserve a car from one of their many conveniently located Zipcar parking spaces and you go! I live in Wicker Park and we have 4 cars here right by my house. Like less then a block to a car. When you go to the car, you swipe your card on the windshield and it lets you so you can then get the key and drive it to wherever you little hearts desire. I like to go to target in mine. It averages about 10 an hour or you can rent per day. Go to zipcar’s website to find out more. Thanks and have a great day.

here in Chicago. Well for me anyway. So, when I left the house today and everyone on the south side of the street had a ticket, I knew…Street cleaning has begun! I’m so glad I don’t have a car anymore. And the lump of homeless person blankets has returned to Wicker Park across the street. I must admit I felt a little better about the weather.

And she’s awesome.

This week is the Winter Music Conference in Miami and all my friends are there warm and happy, while I am here, in the shoe store, cold in Chicago, with a cold…..

I figure if I gotta be here, I might as well promote my friends via blogging. Let’s start with the ladies….. Kate Simko. Kate produces a night at Sonoteque called Wake Up! (She used to do this with Sassmouth, who is sadly moving to London)April’s will be on the 16th and I highly recommend it. Derek Plaslaiko, who is not only a great DJ, but also a super funny and nice guy will be a guest. I will also be there if that is any incentive for you to go……
We also have Sam One or SR-71. Or just Sam which is what I call her. You should check her out, she’s awsome, knows how to jack, and she LOVES the turntables!! It’s pretty fukin awesome.
And last but not least we have G. Her upcoming event, Sprung will be awesome!
Alright I’m getting sleepy seeing as I am SICK. On another note all together, if this weather doesn’t get better, I’m moving to LA. Srsly.

My favorite comedy troop ever, and I do mean EVER is coming to Chicago. Lets all get excited to seeThe Kids in the Hall. They are so funny and cute and I love Bruce!! They are playing at the Chicago Theatre. So you can purchase tickets at their box office or at Ticket Master. And if you have an extra ticket…give me a call……

And I will feel kinda lame if he ever sees this article about me gushing about him coming into the ol’ shoe store and ordering shoes from our Boston location, but it was kind of amazing. In case you don’t know Andrew Bird lives in Chicago, and was in Squirrel Nut Zippers. I’m not the biggest fan, but he was super nice and totally cute too.

So Hi, I’m Miss Betty Brown and I am an artist that works at John Fluevog Shoes in Wicker Park on Milwaukee Ave. And while I was at work yesterday someone stole my phone, again!! (yes this is the second time it has gotten stolen while I was at work) Plus it was a sidekick, not just SOME sidekick, it was MY sidekick. Like my little buddy. Oh man, its so frustrating. I want to stab someone!! Well okay maybe not stab, but you know, be really angry at them here.
I didn’t even get to see who did it. There are a few suspects….
And they took $20 that I made selling art too.
Sorry, I really had to get it off of my chest. Thanks I feel better now.
