One Chicagoland woman will be crowned as The Loop Rock Girl and for one year she will live the rock lifestyle in Chicago. She’ll start off with a handsome $50,000 salary and her job duties will include becoming part of the on-air sound of The Loop, hosting The Loop’s website WLUP.COM, attending high profile events and concerts, appearing in station marketing campaigns, and most importantly meeting and hanging out with The Loop’s listeners!

Chicago Dude Wins Big Check from Lottery

Paul Douglas of Chicago purchased an Illinois Lottery ticket at the White Hen at at 600 McClurg Court and won $20 million. He described the feeling as “spectacular.” Although he said he intended to keep his job, he added that he might splurge a little bit, too. “There’s been this $10 million wallet I’ve had my eye on for some time now,” he told Lottery officials.

“Forty years ago this winter, I was an 8-year-old boy growing up on the North Side of Chicago. The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. had moved into a slum in the impoverished West Side neighborhood of North Lawndale to dramatize the conditions of what were then known as ‘Northern Negroes.’

King was scheduled to visit the home of a local politician to raise money for his cash-strapped movement from white “lakefront liberals.” But the politician, caught between his personal sympathies for King and his allegiance to Mayor Richard J. Daley, who was no fan of the civil-rights leader, felt uncomfortable hosting the party. So he called up my parents and, to my delight, the event was moved to our house at the last minute. “

They’re doing a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity from 9 to 5. I guess if you make a donation (I think it’s $100 or more) they’ll play your request. Good cause aside, it’s also resulted in some of the most interesting radio in this town in a long while. I kid you not I just heard Curtis Mayfield’s “Just a Little Bit of Love” followed by Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight.” Hurry and get an earful before it disappears.
