Rock the Week Out

It’s time once again to take a look at some of the shows I’m considering this week, and we do have some good ones. It seems I’m into bulleted lists lately, so let’s see how that looks:

  • Wednesday: TV On the Radio is playing at the Metro. I’ve never seen them live before, but here’s a video. They also play Thursday, but that show is sold out according to the Reader. Besides, we’ve got you covered for Thursday.
  • Thursday: Oh My God is playing the Double Door. These guys put on a great show full of anthem rock sometimes reminiscent of Queen, sometimes Kiss. Lead singer Bill O’Neill’s on-stage personality pulls you into their music.
  • Friday: There are two shows for you to choose from. Bang! Bang! is playing the Double Door. They bill themselves as sex rock, and they do put on an awesome show. Their CD was the best music I had in my car all last spring.
It’s been a bit longer, though, since I’ve seen the punk of the Paper Bullets or Destroy Everything, and they’re both playing a free show at Mutiny on Friday. Any show with Traci Trouble (vox in Paper Bullets) promises to be great.
  • Saturday: Once again the show I look forward to most tops off the week. Life At Sea and Sybris play together at Subterranean. I bought Life At Sea’s album “Is There a Signal Coming Through?” immediately upon hearing it at a record store. Both bands have powerful melodic guitars, and Sybris’ is especially haunting. Their song “Blame It On Baseball” gives me shivers. Really.
  • Sunday: Wicker Park males beware! The Manhandlers grace Subterranean with their presence. Christeen is awesome on guitar and Syd Delicious fills the stage with energy. They will rock your punk asses off.

There it is. This week’s schedule begs the question: Is there such a thing as too much rock? Talk amongst yourselves.

I saw Life at Sea a few months back(with Elefant @ the DD) and bought their record. It’s been in my cd player ever since, good call!
