If a snotty clothing boutique was a food store…

…it would be Urban Epicure on Berwyn. Laid out like so many fancy clothing stores that only sell 50 things and usually have more sales clerks inside than customers, it looks intimidating from outside. Sarah and I headed over there on our lunch break today to tackle the fear and check it out. Unlike most clothing boutiques (think Julia Roberts trying to shop on Rodeo in Pretty Woman) the staff was super nice and the food was delicious. There are only about 10 grocery shelves stocked with fancy, overpriced food (mmmm, $8 for a weeeeee jar of Portobello parmesan pesto?), but the food all looks delicious.

The trip was made well worth it, not by us gawking at the shelves, but from ordering lunch from the bistro counter. Moderately priced (think Panera & Einstein – esque sandwiches), the food was awesome. I got the pulled pork sandwich and Sarah got the crab cake, which she deemed the best. crab cake. ever.

It was worth the trip and apprehension; certainly not a place to go to every day, but a fun little trip.
