Pure Apocalyptic Fun
This weekend, I promise you nothing less than pure fun. Honestly. Go to these shows. You won’t regret it.
- Thursday: Troubled Hubble @ the Metro. Get yer butt over to the Metro and help Troubled Hubble celebrate their 5-year birthday! Has it been that long? Their music is often happy, sometimes waxing nostalgic about an awkward childhood, and often accompanied by creative, hilarious stage antics. The band is the only band I know that has a (visual) artist as one of its members and an empty canvas as one of its instruments; most of their concerts feature a drawing completed onstage during the show. You just have to see it to fully grasp it.
Also opening is Sybris, who deserve special mention alongside Troubled Hubble as being one of my favorite Chicago bands. w/ the Changes & the Life During Wartime DJs. 18+, 8pm $9. Print out these tickets and get in for $6! - Saturday: The Moses Gun @ Bar Vertigo. Vell, the guitarist, says this is going to be the “End of the World.” Their last show was spectacular, but they didn’t even get to do all they wanted. Vell assures me they won’t make that mistake again. w/ Machete Monks & Johnny Rumble. 21+, 10pm.
There you have it. The apocalypse is here. Come on by for your front row seat. I hope my camera batteries are charged.
hey tom, the dears are not on that bill, at leasat according to the metro site. i got excited though since i’d love to see ’em…
thanks for the heads up tankboy! i was using an older bill from th’s website… sybris was actually added after that bill, so they musta replaced other bands… i also took “robbers on high street” off the list, since closer inspection revealed they’re no longer on it either.
go for troubled hubble and sybris anyway. you should get exicted about them too.
If ya don’t feel like goin to the Troubled Hubble/Sybris show (both of them are awesome), Electrelane/The Dials/Scout Niblett at the Empty Bottle. So good.
the empty bottle is where i’d be if i weren’t at the metro thursday. the dials rock! too bad though, since i live 3 blocks from the empty bottle…
thursday’s a tough night for shows, decision-wise. i’d see them all if i could schedule it.
hey liam looking forward to your show next week! give my love to patti and emily at empty bottle, k?
