One of the few things I hate about Chicago are the smells. Certain streets just smell like sewage processing plants. While that doesn’t stop me from driving with my windows down, or biking all over, it does make things unpleasant.

So imagine my surprise this morning, on my way to the office when I smelled lilacs. On Lakeshore Drive, just north of Roosevelt Road. It was even better than waking up to fresh coffee. Anyone else smell this, or am I just hallucinating?

I haven’t smelled it there, but I can vouch 100% for the absolutely intoxicating smell of lilacs. I grew up in Lombard, a city which is enamored with lilacs. They have a Lilac Day Parade and everything. Our backyard was lined with ginormous lilac bushes, and I think about being 10 every time I smell that totally awesome smell.

It actually smells the same on LSD, right around Belmont. Not sure if it’s lilacs, but it smells wonderfully flowery.
