Who said Billy Corgan was the only Chicago artist with a new release tomorrow?

Home slice Rachael Yamagata releases a live recording of her appearance on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic on iTunes tomorrow. Billy Corgan releases his “first” solo album TheFutureEmbrace tomorrow as well.

Here are reasons to recommend buying and downloading Yamagata’s tracks over Corgan’s new disc:

  • Downloading music is so the wave of the future, or so I’m told.
  • She’s not bald, not that there’s anything wrong with that.
  • While her songs may make you want to get all teary-eyed it’s not because “she used to be so much better and this is what she’s putting out?” like some other Chicago musicians could possibly be accused of doing.
  • Because Rachael is one of the few examples out there of the music industry actually allowing a female artist to grow and mature without trying to turn said female artist into some kind of pop tart.

Oh yeah, and the tunes are stellar.

So there you have it, in the battle of Corgan versus Yamagata I think we have an obvious winnah…

I’m thinking that passing on both might be the best choice. Oh yeah, Billy did do something good, let’s see about 10 years ago!
