The Giant Hole of Belmont Avenue

The Giant Hole of Belmont.jpg

If you were driving somewhere around Belmont and Damen this evening at about 6, the reason the traffic particularly sucked was because this cauldronhole opened up.

It was Ee-nor-mus. Water was gushing underneath it. It could have swallowed a Mini-Cooper, easily.

Are these giganto holes solely a Chicago thing? Are people standing around street corners in New York and LA looking at crater-like potholes and marveling at their size?

I was wondering what was up. Both my sister and I live just a couple blocks away, and were on our way to pick up some dinner when we saw the whole intersection blocked off.

While living on Cortland just east of California one partuicularly cold winter where we had a week or where it didn’t stay above freezing for very long just up the street there was a HUGE frost heave. It literally looked like a two-and-a-half-foot tall zit. If it wasn’t so freaking cold out the skaters would’ve been all over it. Okay, it is road damage, just in the opposite direction.

NO, but we will stand around to watch a dead body.
