Entertain out-of-towners on the cheap

I was doing some research this morning to find out what we should do when my Mr. Man’s dad comes in to town (ahem – 2 days after we move into a new apartment – great planning). I stumbled across thelocaltourist.com’s Cheap Things to do in Chicago on del.icio.us this morning, and it is right up my alley.

Keep in mind, this city is so awesome that you don’t need to spend a boatload to entertain guests. Most people are impressed enough by the El that you can just ride it around the loop and skip the architectural tour. Take the train and do it by foot. With a 2 hour transfer, you can hit most of the stations downtown.

Super thumbs up on drinks at the Signature Lounge. The Sears Tower is great, but the Hancock has a bit more to offer.

I do have a couple suggestions to add to the list…

1. Rent a paddle boat at Lincoln Park Zoo and paddle around the lagoon. $12 for 30 minutes, and each boat accomodates 4 people.
2. Grab a bite at a divey beef joint, like Mr. Beef on Orleans
3. If it’s nice out, rent some bikes and cruise up the path on Lake Shore Drive.

Any more?

fyi, the Chicago Children’s Museum is now free on Mondays if you have any kidlets to entertain.

    Thanks for the kudos!

Couple more suggestions: Movies in the Park, free movies on Tuesdays at sunset in Grant Park. It ends Aug 23. There’s also SummerDance, also in Grant Park. Thursdays through Sundays until Aug 28 get a dance lesson then try out your moves to live music.
