Lolla ’05

So the big Lollapalooza show was this wkend and I think that it turned out pretty well. Sure, the lineup could have been a bit more diverse, but it wasn’t bad for only having 3 weeks to book the bands. I was pretty excited when the tickets were purchased over a month ago. Unfortunately, since I wasn’t able to attend all 20-something hours, it essentially cost $85 to see 3 bands: Primus (Les Claypool is a bass Jedi), the Pixies (kicked ass, a tight set…the Pixies!) and Satellite Party, Perry Ferrell’s new band (eh).

Saturday was the more exciting day of the two. Everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves, and why not. You have the first of a two-day, major music fest, right on the lakefront, the skyline in the background and beautiful weather. Sunday had the same ingredients; however the weather was unbearable, being 1,000,000 degrees and all.

Overall, I was very impressed on how the whole event was run. Besides some of the shows running into each other, which caused some audio overflow at times, the schedule went as planned. There seemed to be plenty of food and drink vendors on hand. Also present were cooling stations and cooling buses, the latter being one of the better ideas I’ve seen at any fest in a long time.

Hopefully, Lollapalooza will be back next year, but with a better lineup. It won’t be a bad thing if it can call Chicago home.

Btw, was that our own Tom Shekleton quoted in Red Eye this a.m. about Lollapoo? Or another incarnation thereof?

I thought the diversity was just fine. It lacked rap and hip-hop, as far as I’m concerned that’s for a different festival. I love the Pixies, their sound is great, but their stage show is non-existent.

That was our Tom. No other Tom would be out at a festival that freaking early just to see The Ponys!

Yeah, I picked it up and I read it and I blame Fuzzy! I didn’t have a pen with me at the time so I am not a Sudoku addict, yet. But, jeez I wanted to make all those rows add up to 9. Recognizing you’ve got a problem is half the battle.

I guess I should have said “work out to 1 to 9” but you know what I meant.
