I spit on your car.

Nope, fortunately this post has nothing to do with the 1978 flick “i spit on your grave“. This actually happened to me the other day while driving to work. I was heading north on Elston and was coming up on the Elston/Addison intersection. The left lane arrow had just turned yellow as I approached and, since it was raining, I decided the safest thing to do would be to continue through, instead of hitting the brakes and risk sliding into the intersection or being hit from behind. So as I’m following the truck ahead of me, I see a guy on his bike coming towards me. He too is going thru on a yellow. I didn’t think anything of it except that as he rode past me, on my passenger’s side, I saw him jerk his head forward, towards the door window.

For a second I ignored it, but once I was on Addison I thought “did he just spit on my car?” I turned to look at the window, and there it was: his loogey dripping down my window. At first I was shocked..then pissed…then oh well whatever. The rain was washing it off, and was doing the same with my anger. But why was he so pissed as to spit on my car as I drove by? It’s not as if I was gunning recklessly thru the intersection, in the rain, towards him. And sure, the light was yellow, but I wasn’t doing 70 trying to beat the red. And HE went through the yellow as well! Should I have spit on him too? Even the score? Hardly. I wouldn’t do such a thing. Too bad he couldn’t restrain himself as well.

All of this just reminds me of previous conversations on this site regarding driver etiquette and cracking down on bicyclists when it comes to the rules of the road. Just be civil, people.
