I miss they heyday of John Hughes; I’ll take Sixteen Candles over Casablanca or Citizen Kane any day of the week. Call me uncultured, but don’t tell me Jake Ryan isn’t the absolute dreamiest.

The Sun-Times has a great round up of “famous” Chicago area high schools from films, John Hughes and others. The list is certainly lacking though. Just off the top of my head, I can think of Shattered Glass (which I was just watching on HBO this weekend) parts of which take place at Highland Park High School.

Also, while it never explicitly names a location, American Beauty takes place in the north suburbs judging from the 847 area code that appears throughout the movie. To be fair, the high school scenes were shot in Los Angeles.
