Katrina/Pet Rescue
There’s been a lot of talk about the pets owners were forced to leave behind because of Katrina. They are victims as well. This NPR spot shows the need for organized pet rescue. FYI, it’s a bit heartbreaking at times…

In addition, if you can spare it, please donate time or money to the following organizations. They are spending countless hours rescuing and reuniting pets with their owners.
Hello,
I am trying to get word out about our organization set up to help people locate lost pets. PetNeighbor.Net specializes in helping to reunite lost pets and their owners, there has been such a need and so many people who had to leave their pets behind during the evacuation of the hurricane ravaged areas. Since this is a service we normally provide it was only natural that we help in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. We have provided a toll free number (866/673-4705) and a photo gallery of pets that have been displaced due to Katrina.
We are also accepting donations of non-perishable cat and dog food, medicine, and bedding materials. There are several drop off locations throughout the Atlanta and Columbus GA metro areas. For specific information on where the drop sites are call our toll free number (866/673-4705).
We would appreciate very much if you could list us as a resource for those who are searching for their beloved pets and for those who wish to help with donations.
Thank you for your time and considerations,

I just checked out http://www.petneighbor.net (neighbor is spelled wrong btw.)
To list a pet, you have to register. On the registration screen, I saw the following:
If you would like to pay by check – or would rather sign up by phone – please call us toll-free at 866-673-4705 and our staff will be glad to help you.
Their heart may be in the right place, but I won’t be referring people to a pay service.
Greetings!
Thanks for checking out the PetNeighbor site. We do offer a pet location service for a subscription price but its a proactive assurance you sign up for before your pet gets lost. That’s our regular service. All the time and resources we are donating to the Katrina pets and their families are exactly that, donations. No victim of hurricane Katrina, who is reunited with their pet(s) through our efforts, will be charged for our services. Please stop by again and take a closer look.
Thanks for your time,
