Me > John Williams
All last week, accompanying my daily Sudoku puzzle was the time that WGM-AM 720’s DJ John William’s had completed the puzzle.
I smoked him, Monday-Thursday (Friday I drove to work, thus no RedEye, but I have little doubt that his time could be better than mine).
Let us compare times:
John Williams | Me | |
---|---|---|
Mon | 9min | 6min |
Tues | 39min | 19min |
Wed | 21min | 13min |
Thur | 1hr 16min | 27min |
I hope this whole Sudoku thing isn’t just a passing fad – I’m actually good at this, not to mention I seriously SUCK at the crossword puzzle.
Oh, and what’s up with people on the train who try and copy off me? Seriously?
Me, too!
I noticed that it took him 56 minutes or something for Friday’s. I did in McDonald’s while eating a light lunch. 20 minutes tops. Is he writing a novel on the side while he does it, or what?
I think it is a passing fad. After you figure out the main plays, it’s just a matter of record keeping and applying a little logic.
I’ve been charitably thinking that maybe he has kids who run around the kitchen table while he’s trying to solve the puzzle. I might know the actual answer if I ever listened to his program, but that’s not gonna happen. And yeah, he sucks at Suduko.

— but you can say the same thing about Tetris (sorta) and I still play that.
Never liked Tetris. I’m not bored of Sudoku yet, though. I do it at work. It LOOKS like you are working, if you do it right.
