Talkin’ Funny

(I normally shy away from me-related plugs, but I’m participating in some events in the next two days that are a little unusual and that I think deserve some attention.)

Tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 11) I’ll be appearing on Talkin’ Funny on Chicago Cable Access, CAN-21 at 7:30 pm. A few weeks ago, the cast of the alternative comedy live game show Don’t Spit the Water went on the cable-access variety show Nude Hippo: Your Chicago Show. While they were there, DSTW producer Steve Gadlin found out about the Hotline 21 program that lets non-profit organizations produce live half-hour call-in shows. DSTW is produced under the umbrella of The Playground, a non-profit improv co-op, so, less than a month after discovering the possibility, Steve is hosting just such a show. Except, he’s doing it in character as international comedy sensation, Sasha, along with his sidekick the Noob. Who doesn’t talk. And hosts a call-in show.

The first show was last week, and it was a delightful mess, between Steve and Paul barely keeping it together in their glee, the parade of just-glad-to-hear-their-own-voice and truly-puzzled callers, and Don Hall. I’m the guest of the second show and I’ll be (theoretically) talking about producing non-mainstream improv shows like the Neutrino Project and Cinema 2.0. If you enjoy the comedy of the awkward pause, or if you’re actually interested in improvisation, this show may be a special treat just for you.
