Burge, Daley and Devine

On the way to court this morning, I happened to hear a very disturbing bit of news involving our mayor and the Cook County State’s Attorney, Dick Devine.

You can listen to the story in the link above; for those without access to streaming audio, here’s the summary:

John Burge the former Commander of Chicago’s 2nd Police Distrcit, and his detectives, have been accused of torturing confessions out of suspected criminals. Our beloved mayor, and our respected State’s Attorney, fall into this mess due to their positions within County government 12 years ago.

During Burge tenure at Area 2, Daly was the Cook County State’s Attorney. Devine was his first assisstant. In all probability, they prosecuted people based off of these very same confessions.

As much as I heart our mayor, he has to answer a number of questions resulting from Burge’s inhumane and brutal tactics. Given other scandals in City Hall, hopefully it’s sooner rather than later.
